Waste removal companies ready to serve

May 21, 2020

What happens when an entire city decides to do their spring-cleaning all at once? Long line-ups at The City of Red Deer Waste Management Facility!

They are not uncommon in the spring, but with so many people isolating at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a surge of residents cleaning out their homes, garages and yards. Add to that the extra safety measures in place at the facility to prevent the spread of COVID, and you might run into some unusually long wait times. The City has responded by extending “Free Yard Waste Week” for the entire month of May. Residents can also set out extra (compostable) bags of yard waste for pickup. But if you want to avoid the extra trips and long lines all together, why not consider one of the many waste service providers in Red Deer? Local companies like Empringham Disposal are usually busy at this time of year, but have noticed even more of an uptick in residential customers over the past several weeks. They, along with companies like Waste Management of Canada, also offer recycling, organics, yard waste, electronics and hazardous waste removal services, which can be booked online.

Kirstin Ball with Environmental 360 Solutions says they have been “working flat out” since the pandemic struck. Despite an increase in temporary rentals, they’re still able to offer bin delivery with 24 hours notice, and don’t yet have a waiting list. Recycling is a critical part of their service; they sort and prepare recyclable materials at their facility, in addition to composting organics. Other service providers such as Dumpco Ltd. (septic and portable restroom rentals), partner with E360 to provide bin services to businesses at construction sites.

All businesses we spoke with say they’re taking extra precautions to ensure social distancing and prevent the spread of COVID-19 to keep their employees and customers safe.
