Red Deer, have you ordered your Takeout?

May 22, 2020

Red Deer restaurants have enjoyed a boost in sales thanks to a national initiative started by Canada Takeout! Launched back in April, diners across Canada were encouraged to take a break from cooking and order out on Wednesdays, in a show of support for their favourite local restaurants.

Over 50 restaurants in Red Deer are signed up on the Canada Takeout website at Canadatakeout.com. Hungry patrons can use the restaurant finder to see the full list and access their favourites. #TakeoutDay provides a great option for people to support their favorite restaurants, especially those that haven’t yet been able to reopen for dine-in.

Ryan Curtis of Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria noticed an increase in sales the first Wednesday that #TakeoutDay was launched, which helped offset some of the initial losses they’d seen from COVID-19 restrictions. He shared that they definitely have regular customers, and they’ve been overwhelmed by the support and kindness of patrons, many who have chosen to leave generous gratuities, or have refused the discounts.

The food service industry was one of the first to feel the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has been one of the hardest hit industries. Dustin Snider from Earls Restaurant in Red Deer said, “We appreciate the trend that the community is taking to support the food and beverage industry.”

Several hundred restaurant owners, chefs, culinary leaders and celebrities across Canada have joined forces to support Canada Takeout to make every Wednesday #TakeoutDay. This includes some of Canada’s favourite food personalities such as chef Vikram Vij (Vancouver and Surrey), chef Ivana Raca (Toronto), and chef Tyrone Welchinski (Winnipeg).

Canada Takeout celebrates food holidays each week, and their next featured holiday is Burger Day on Wednesday May 27.
