From Syria to Canada, a unique cultural experience
The Orontes Guitar Quartet originated in Syria, but was forced to flee from their homeland when it became too dangerous to stay.
Now on a one year fellowship at the University of Victoria, the group travelled to Red Deer to perform with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra on the main stage at the 52O North Music + and Cultural Festival as part of the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
The quartet wowed the audience with their mix of classical guitar, with flavours of Damascus, Canada, and everywhere in between. The group braved the Central Alberta elements again for a lunch time performance on Little Gaetz. The temperature was so cold, the event moved inside, but the acoustics in the foyer of Century Plaza enhanced their unique sound. Check out their talent in the clip above.
